A new adaptor for efficient mounting

With this adaptor, its now easy to effectively mount two Huawei radios back to back together with MAFI brackets.
This provides a compact and slim solution, for example, “radio behind the antenna”.

MAFI 1250 can be ordered from the end of June for global deliveries.

Doctor of Materials Chemistry becomes new Technical Manager at MAFI

Cross-border work. Short decision-making and lead times and new challenges.
These were some of the reasons why Per Tägtström chose to take the job as Technical Manager at MAFI.
Per started at the MAFI in early May. He is a PhD in Materials Chemistry and has previously worked mainly with product and process development at SSAB in Borlänge.
”My interest in material chemistry arose during school,” he says. ”When I started studying at Uppsala University, I stuck to the subject. It is exciting and challenging while it is fun and interesting.”

Per believes that the best thing about his job is to see the link between idea and finished product, to have a vision of something and to work to fulfil it.
”I have mainly been in companies that have thousands of employees and MAFI a few dozens, and just this, coming to a smaller, highly specialised company, was something that attracted me,” Per says.
”At MAFI the lead-time from a formulated need, through CAD sketches and prototypes to finished product, is significantly shorter than what I am used to. I look forward to being a part of this faster process.

Per´s overall task will be to ensure that MAFI retains the excellent quality of its product development as the company grows.
”MAFI’s design team, Andreas Axelsson, Anna Borgny and my predecessor Jonas Wassdahl, have done and does a great job,” he continues. ”Now, among other things, we will develop material use, where I can contribute with knowledge about metallic materials.”
Per also stresses the importance of continually focusing on customer benefit, something he brings from SSAB.
”MAFI will help its customers to become more competitive and is at the forefront of solution-based sales and customisation.”

Forced to highlight three positive qualities of himself, he chooses responsive, prestigeless and sociable.
”And results driven,” he adds. ”If that´s a property.”
In his spare time, Per is very committed to the local swim club of which he is chairman.

MAFI News – May 2018

New Dual ERS bracket

The major difference between the previous 6023 and the 6024 is that the 6024 fits together with ERS units with a hole pattern of both cc 30 mm and cc 80 mm. The 6023 only fits together with ERS units with hole pattern of cc 30 mm.
”This new solution fits all Ericsson´s ERS-units with a hole pattern of cc 30 or 80 millimeters,” explains Jan Fridén, Manager Business Unit MAFI Integrated Solutions.
With the 6024 it´s possible to mount two ERS units with any of the hole patterns.
”This is a global Ericsson product,” Jan continues. ”And we´re shipping it all over the world.”

GPS mount for all markets

After a request from the Indian market, MAFI developed a special GPS mount.
Basically, the GPS mount extends the distance from the pole to the GPS, so it gets a free line of sight.
It is designed to carry a GPS unit attached to a vertical or inclined structural leg member.
”The equipment offset is 390 mm (15,3 in) from member to centre of equipment.
Since there is a growing interest in this solution, MAFI 3058, from several other markets, MAFI has decided to market and ship it worldwide.
The bracket is fast and easy to mount on the pole. It can be tilted vertically without dismounting it from the pole.

MAFI investigates
opportunities in West Africa

Being born in Ghana, Barfi has a good knowledge of the region, and he has a Bachelor of commerce and has also studied international sales and marketing with B2B marketing, advanced sales, supply chain management as main subjects.
”Ghana and Nigeria are two large and growing internet markets, which offers perfect opportunities for MAFI, Barfi explains.”
Together Nigeria and Ghana have a population of 215 million people. The most common way to connect to the Internet is via a smartphone. In Ghana, the internet penetration through mobile phones is 34% and in Nigeria about 20%. ”And since basically everyone wants to be connected to the internet, there is a growing number of providers that are planning new roll-outs in both countries,” Barfi continues. There will be roll-outs in both 3G and 4G. In Ghana, for instance, the government demands that the 3G net has to cover the villages in the countryside before they can start building 4G in the major cities.
Together with MAFI´s management, he has made a business plan which aims to establish the company in the region.
”The following weeks I will meet representatives from MTN, the largest mobile provider in both countries, as well as entrepreneurs, installation companies and tower owners,” says Barfi. ”I want to know what their needs are and how we can match them and how we can help build infrastructure for the telecom segment, both fast and to a competitive cost, and still offer the highest quality.”>

MAFI News – April 2018

MAFI opens a one‐stop‐shop in East Africa

Within a few weeks, MAFI will open a warehouse and a sales office in Nairobi, Kenya. For this purpose, MAFi has registered the company, MAFI East Africa. The office is centrally located in Nairobi, while the warehouse is close to the new railway station, the international airport and the road to the port of Mombasa.
”The warehouse has a very strategic position given that it will serve as a hub for MAFI products throughout the region,” Samuel continues. ”We see that countries like Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia and Rwanda have the same needs as Kenya.”

To execute fast deliveries, standard products are shipped from Sweden to the warehouse in Nairobi. In the long term, components will be sent from where they are manufactured to Kenya for local assembly. And in the longer term, domestic production can be considered.
MAFI has been working to establish itself in the region for a while.

”But local presence and fast deliveries are the keys to success. We will, therefore, build an organisation with local staff led by Jan Sandén.”

Already in demand from this market are products for mounting radio antennas and other equipment on the masts and towers, as well as freestanding solutions.
”MAFI East Africa will also be a dealer for Elektroskandia China’s entire product portfolio for the telecom segment,” Samuel reveals. ”Together we create a one-stop-shop where our customers can solve all their needs to install and mount a mobile site.”Contact

”We will live up to high expectations”

Jan Sandén will take charge of MAFI East Africa’s operations.
”The market can expect quality products, fast deliveries, flexible solutions and technical support,” he explains.
“MAFI lives up to high expectations worldwide. We’ll do here as well!
Since 2013, he has been working on business development and sales in the sub-Saharan market of Elektroskandia.

My overall task within MAFI East Africa is to market and sell MAFI´s and Elektroskandia´s products on the local markets,” he says. ”Through our local presence, our solutions will be exciting to all actors within the telecom segment. We can deliver the right solutions to the expansion of existing networks, but also to 4G which is in rapid growth in most countries in the region.”
MAFI will contact customer segments which it considers to benefit from the company’s solutions.
”We are already in touch with leading mobile providers and tower companies,” says Jan. ”But we will also contact system suppliers like Nokia and Huawei, contractors and builders, just to mention a few possible clients.”

MAFI at Elektroskandia´s telecom day

At Elektroskandia´s yearly telecom day in Stockholm in March, MAFI was one of 22 companies that showcased their solutions.
”We had many visitors,” says Samuel Enqvist, Sales & Market Manager at MAFI. ”Most of them we knew, but as always we also made some new and interesting acquaintances. All in all it was a great day to catch up and to talk some shop!”
A logical solution
”What´s new from MAFI?”
Anders Borg, Head of Site Services & Aftermarket Services, and Victor Mount, Global Supplier Relationship Manager, both from Ericsson, were both curious about what news MAFI might have.
And although the freestanding corner pole, MAFI 4600, that was displayed isn´t quite new, it was the first time Victor Mount saw it.
”It´s very interesting,” he says, ”and it seems to be a very logical solution.”
”Its advantages are that it’s easy and fast to mount and that it can withstand quite high windload,” Anders Borg concludes. ”This is an important feature since we want to be able to mount as much equipment on it as possible.”

MAFI´s Samuel Enqvist (left) talking to
Victor Mount and Anders Borg, both Ericsson.

Fastest in the industry
”Personally, what I like most about MAFI, is the speed with which they execute an order. They are the fastest in the industry! If I make an order one day, I usually have what I need the next day.”
Marco Nikkanen is a project manager at Relacom and is currently building sites for Telia in the Stockholm area.
”When I get a purchase order from Telia, and we need a bracket solution, I order them from MAFI, who is one of our main suppliers. If I need to solve something else, and I´m not sure how to do it in the best way, I usually call Victor and together we find the best solution.”

Marco Nikkanen, project manager at Relacom.

Interesting and enlightening
”I´m usually at my office, so it´s nice to be here and to see the products we´re using.”
Anders Nordenson, Implementation Manager at Ericsson, is currently working with the roll-out of one of Ericsson’s networks.
”This is interesting and enlightening,” he continues. And it´s also exciting to discuss how we could develop attachment methods from an environmental point of view, on which there´s a growing focus these days.”
Anders Nordenson visited the fair with his colleague Ola Gustafson, who is working on the Sunab network.
”I´ve been installing a lot of equipment with MAFI´s solution for the last 15 years. And I´ve seen a constant development of their products, which I think is very positive.”

Ola Gustafson, both Ericsson.

I like MAFI´s solutions
Rasmus Mikaelsson is CEO of Inframix, a company with about 40 employees and with projects all over northern Sweden.
”Currently we are bidding on a project building links for fibre,” he explains. ”And in that context, we need wall mounts for radio transmitters. I came across MAFI´s solutions, and I like them. I also feel that I´m getting all the information that I need to make a well-founded decision. I hope that we can proceed with this project within a month.”

Rasmus Mikaelsson, CEO Inframix.

They actually listen
”Generally MAFI makes products that are unfaltering and of high quality,” says Robert Budai at Dala mast och mobilinstallationer AB. Currently, his company is building and upgrading sites in the south of Sweden.
”That said, I am a bit hesitative about some solutions that can be difficult to mount efficiently. I just told my views on this to MAFI´s reps, and I think they listened responsively. And that is also a typical MAFI feature; they actually listen to their customer’s views and take action on the feedback they receive.”

Mats Bergström, CEO GMI, and Robert Budai, Dala Mast
och Mobilinstallationer AB.

Internet of things
”We are building a network for ´the Internet of things´ in Sweden with Sigfox´s solutions.”
Lars Lindmark is the Chief of Sales Operations at IoT Sweden, the company that´s building Sigfox´s network, Sigfox being one of the worlds major providers of the Internet of things.
”I´ve been buying products from MAFI earlier,” Lars Lindmark says, ”and I thought it would be nice to meet MAFI´s reps since I´ve haven´t before.”
At the moment Lars Lindmark is buying what he calls ”MAFI feet”, i.e. MAFI 4112, which is a rooftop single based free-standing solution.
”I like to use MAFI´s products since they are robust and I get fast service.”

Rasmus is aiming for
the top in motocross

On the 22nd of March Elektroskandia is hosting its popular telecom day in Kista, Stockholm, for the 8th time.
Together with MAFI, there will be 22 exhibitors.Rasmus is from the small town Eksjö in southern Sweden. He began driving motocross since his dad Daniel was interested in the sport.
”He was the mechanic to friends who drove,” says Rasmus. ”Now he helps me in all my competitions”.
But also his mother Jessica, girlfriend Mathilda and sister Isabelle participates in most of the competitions.
To his greatest successes, Rasmus counts a 3rd place in the Danish championship, 3rd in 125 U17 Swedish Championship 2015, 3rd in Junior Swedish Championship MX2 250 2016 and 2nd in Junior Swedish Championship MX2 250 2017.

”This season I will compete in the Danish championships, the Swedish Championship, four competitions in the European Championships and some other competitions, including a race in the French championships,” he says.
His goal for this year is to win the Danish championships, be top five in the Swedish championship and to be at least 20th place in the European Championships´ races.

So, what´s the fun in driving motocross?
“The adrenaline, the speed, the jumps, challenging the other drivers and trying to be the best, he answers.
How does he see himself as a driver?
”I’m thinking a lot about how I drive, which track is best, not just trailing the others. And I drive thrifty, so I save my body. I do not gamble. Instead, I try to ride safely, and it’s a strategy that has proven to be successful. I have not missed any races due to injuries.”

What can you do better?
”Raising my lowest level, going faster in turns, for example, those are things I work on.”
And last, what’s happening next?
“Last Friday I went France and then I´m going to Belgium to train for six weeks. The courses are better there this time of year, and I can lay a good foundation for my driving and the Swedish Championship that begins in April.”

Use MAFI parts to create almost any mounting solution

Did you know that you can use MAFI parts to create almost any mounting solution you can imagine? And very quickly prove that it works structurally?
We can’t give you an in-depth course in a short newsletter article, but let’s look quickly at designing “clip-on” head frames for almost any tower, by using a couple of examples.MAFI products are super flexible, but you do need to know some basic things about the tower at the position you’re going to mount your new kit:
• Are the legs vertical or parallel?
• How far apart are they?
• Are they tubular or angular?
• Approximately what diameter or size are they? Skinny, or good and chunky?
• Does the diagonal bracing of the tower project beyond the plane of the legs?

Here’s an example of a skinny, parallel tower head where you want to mount six antennas. There wouldn’t be room around the existing tower to mount six antennas, and even if you could, it would be questionable practice to use the thin tower legs as parents of pairs of antennas. Our solution is to plant a more robust pole at each corner, at the same time producing a bigger triangle. The new parent poles are mounted on the end of short 60 x 60 square beams, which in turn span between two legs, attached with MAFI 5311 joint plate kits. From there, we simply mount the antennas on traditional MAFI 3268 symmetric offsets.

Now here’s (right photo) a big tubular-leg tower that’s changing from non-parallel to parallel, right where we want to put a headframe. The legs are substantial and more than 2m apart and we want to support three very large and heavy antennas on each face, to replace the existing pairs of antennas at the corners. Here’s what it looked like before the upgrade (right photo).

The parts used in the previous example aren’t appropriate here as the loads and spans are much bigger, and the legs aren’t nice and parallel. We used MAFI 3610 raking Tower leg offsets to plant a new vertical Ø114.3 pole at each corner, with an extra bracket arm in between because the total load supported would exceed the capacity of the normal two brackets. Then, using MAFI crossover plates as connectors, we spanned pairs of 3m long horizontal Ø114.3 tubes between the new corner poles with three vertical Ø 76.1 tubes on each face to support the antennas. All these are standard MAFI parts available for next-day delivery.

This headframe was designed in one afternoon, approved and ordered the following day,
delivered to site the next morning and built the same day.

If you would like to learn how to do this, why not book a seminar with MAFI?

Johannes is hoping for Olympic gold

After a convincing 2017, sailor Johannes Pettersson is aiming to raise his lowest level this year. The goal is to reach several top positions in international competitions.
”When my sailing career is over, I hope to have sailed in the Olympic Games, and got a medal, preferably one in gold,” he says.Johannes was born and raised in Mora, Sweden, the same city where MAFI has its headquarters.
As we reach Johannes on the phone, he is just heading to Miami, United States. There he will train for a few weeks before competing in the World Cup.
”Travelling to lots of exciting places is one of the things that makes the sailing fun and exciting,” he says. ”I have been to many places in Europe. This year I will go to Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. And at the end of the season, I will probably go to Japan, to sail in the same arena as the Olympic Games will be held in 2020.”

Among his main merits, Johannes places gold in the Swedish Junior Championship 2015, as well as an 8th place in the Junior World Cup and a 37th place in the World Cup last year. The successes led to the attention of Johannes and gained him a place in both the KSSS (Royal Swedish Royal Swedish Yacht Club) and the national team.
But just two years ago, it did not look so bright for Johannes. In 2016 he finished the sailing school in Motala, and the step to taking full responsibility for the entire business became a significant transformation.
”But in 2017 I beat my expectations! I bought a new sail and mast for my Finn, increased my speed and improved the results.”

As a consequence of his success, he received a request to train with Max Salminen and Tapio Nirkko, both of whom belong to the international sailing elite.
”Of course I said yes,” continues Johannes. When I work with them, I learn a lot, and my results improve.”
This season he will compete in the Junior World Cup, as well as in the European Cup and World Cup. This year’s most important competition will be the World Cup in Danish Aarhus in August.
”Then, the first nation’s places to the Olympic Games in Japan will be assigned, so I need to be in great shape by then!”
Johannes began to sail as a nine-year-old. Then he was also doing motocross and downhill skiing. But when he noticed that he had the most talent for the sailing, he quit the other sports. But talent is not enough!
”I do around seven work-outs a week,” he reveals. ”And on average over a year, I may sail fifteen days a month.”

But neither exercise nor good physics is enough to reach the top.
”Sailing is a material sport,” explains Johannes. For example, within the given frames you can vary stiffness in mast and hull and the depth of the saill. There are small differences on the boats, but for the top sailers, they make a difference.”
Johannes is pleased with his boat but adds that he always wants the best, and continuously works to test the benefits and to optimise it.
So, what makes him cope with all the training and travelling?
”The sailing brings out the best in me,” he says. ”I’m also a competitive person, I like to compare myself to others. And I enjoy sailing and travelling to new, exciting places to do what I love the most.”For almost 25 years, MAFI has essentially delivered standard solutions to the global telecom industry. MAFI News – Dec 2017

Robin always finds a solution together with MAFI

Robin is the CEO and owner of Götalands El & Telecom. It´s based in Jönköping in southern Sweden and operates over large parts of the country.
And he should know. About ten years ago he started his career mounting and doing service work within telecom. Five years later he had his own company and six employees, and today they are 18. ”The credit to our growth goes to my excellent employees,” Robin emphasises. ”They are all reliable and work as a team!”

Götalands El & Telecom mainly replace old equipment with new frequency and technologies ”That´s what we have been doing for some weeks here in the Falun-Borlänge area for Hi3G.” Robin has team’s of three employees, and one team usually rebuilds two sites a week. Other customers they have are Telia and Net1. ”Most assignments we get from bigger companies,” Robin continues, ”but some work we do directly with the operator, Such as Net1, which is our ”own” client.” Robin buys most of the brackets, freestanding solutions and other related equipment he needs from MAFI.
”What I like about MAFI´s products is that they can be assembled quickly. And it´s a fact that once they are in place, you know they stay there, that´s nothing you even need to have a second thought about. My clients want safe solutions, and when I write my tender, I specify MAFI´s solutions, which is both appreciated and accepted.”[blockquote text=””Together with MAFI, we found another solution that works just as well.”
Robin Larsson, CEO Götalands El & Telecom” show_quote_icon=”yes”]Mostly Robin orders the MAFI´s equipment via Elektroskandia, and delivery usually takes one day. ”I also like that MAFI responds quickly when we have a question,” he says. ”For instance, for us, it´s hard to know what dimension of the free-standing corner solutions we should use since this depends on many factors: the weight of the equipment, wind load, where we are building the site and so on. But one call to MAFI and we usually have a fast answer back.” Recent years MAFI has removed some products from its portfolio, Robin has noticed. ”Yes, like a chimney bracket that we sometimes used. But, together with MAFI, we found another solution that works just as well.”

Opening hours during the holiday

In Sweden, we have customer and delivery services during all ordinary weekdays.
In the UK, we have customer services all days, except on bank holidays. However, there won’t be any delivery services from the 22nd of December until the 2nd of January.

Merry Christmas

and Happy New Year

Soon another year has gone by, and we take this opportunity to wish all our customers, partners and friends Happy Holidays!

At MAFI we are fortunate to have enjoyed twelve successful and eventful months.
This year we had our 25-year celebration. We also moved to a new, larger office and warehouse, where we have plenty of space to grow even further. And besides launching some new products, we have divided our business into two fields, MAFI StandardSolutions and MAFI Integrated Solutions, within which we design and produce tailor-made brackets that fully meet customer needs.
We hope that you as well had a good 2017 and that 2018 will be prosperous for you and your business.

This time of year we remember those in need. MAFI´s Christmas gift 2017 is sent to Save the Children. We hope our modest contribution will help children at war and to see that they might have a safe childhood.

Emma wants to be the best in the world

“I want to be the best in the world. Time will tell if I have the capacity for it.”
The Swedish biathlete Emma Höglund has her goal clear, even though it is a few years ahead.
This season she hopes she does good results in the Swedish races and to be chosen to compete in an international competition.

Skis have always been a part of Emma´s life.
“I’ve been skiing since I could walk,” she said with a laugh. ”And when I was twelve, I started competing in biathlon.”
At the moment Emma is studying at Mitt University in Östersund, where she´s also training.
“I am doing independent courses,” she says. ”But from autumn 2018, I hope I can start with journalism, because I would like to work in media or communication.”

But, it’s training and competition that takes Emma’s most time. This year she will train about 650 hours, next year a 100 more. She has a trainer at the university and the Swedish Biathlon Federation who plan her training.
During the racing season, the exercise dose is reduced. In recent years Emma has had some difficulties not always managing top performance at the races. This year, one of her goals is to ”have a responsive, well-honed body” that can add a gear when needed. Despite this, her best merits are a silver medal in Junior Swedish Championship, another silver medal in Junior Swedish Championship men’s relay, and a bronze medal at Junior Swedish Championship at roller skis.
”Compared to my peers, I’m currently a better shooter than a skier,” she says. ”Racing ten to twelve kilometres, I´m about two minutes after the best skiers. But, I’m one of the faster and more solid shooters in Sweden, even counting the seniors.”

This means that on a 20-shoot race Emma usually only misses 3-4 shots. Consequently, she can perform an even competition even with the fastest skiers.
When asked, what’s driving her to train and compete, Emma thinks for a while before she answers:
”The feeling of crossing the finishing line, regardless if it’s a competition or a training session or when I´ve pushed my body to its limits. When racing, you think you’re dying, but being able to keep ahead, or to catch up, it’s a fabulous feeling that’s very hard to explain.”

Ericsson about to roll out 5G

Can you sit in Paris and drive a car in Stockholm?
Yes, you can! At least if you have a 5G connection from Ericsson and the drivers are famous Paris Saint-Germain football players Lucas and Nkunku.
When Ericsson arranged its innovation day in Paris in October one of the most startling elements was when Lucas and Nkunku sat in a ”car” with huge screens in front of it, as they drove a real car on a racing track in Stockholm.
With this exercise, Ericsson wanted to show some of the possibilities with 5G.
– The spectators were very impressed, says Matthias Rodermann, Mobile Broadband Engagement Manager at Ericsson.
– Once a year we arrange this day. We invite customers, journalists, government, industry representatives and others to get them up to speed on Ericsson´s latest solutions and innovations.

This year one of the main topics was 5G. Ericsson had invited suppliers like 3M, Sonepar and MAFI.
– We host workshops and demonstrations, Mr Rodermann continues. And we also showed a complete technical ”ecosystem” around 5G, which included a 5G site, with a 5G antenna mounted on one of MAFI´s freestanding rooftop solutions.

One of the purposes of the site was to show that it could be built from scratch in half a day.
– The speed in which the site was built was an eyeopener for many visitors, says Mr Rodermann. MAFI´s solutions are proved to be simple, but very efficient and trustworthy, and fast to install.

He is happy to tell that the positive feedback on the innovation day was overwhelming.
– We got 10 out of 10 in customer satisfaction, he says with a big smile. That´s never happened before. And the day is generating a lot of interest from customers, new leads and we´re providing sample equipment to many of our partners.

Ericsson has started to test 5G in limited areas in South Korea and some other countries.
– Next year we will begin to build 5G clusters, which contains maybe 30-50 sites in smaller networks, he continues. And from there we expect a more decisive roll-out during 2020 all around the world.

Eight successful years for ESK India

Can you sit in Paris and drive a car in Stockholm?
Yes, you can! At least if you have a 5G connection from Ericsson and the drivers are famous Paris Saint-Germain football players Lucas and Nkunku.
On the 1st of October, MAFI was part of ESK India´s celebration together with its executives and staff.
– We have had ESK India as a close partner and distributor in India for two years now, says MAFI´sSales Manager Samuel Enqvist. They have contributed to our excellent growth and sales of our solutions.
– We congratulate ESK India, and hope for a continuing successful partnership with prospering business, Samuel says.

Shorter lead times with a new business area

The market’s shortest lead times from idea to advanced prototype to shipping of ready-made brackets make MAFI unique.

Within a new business area, MAFI Integrated Solutions, MAFI creates custom-made brackets that fully meet customer needs.Since a month, MAFI operates within two business areas:
MAFI Standard Solutions (MSS) and MAFI Integrated Solutions (MSS).
“We are now creating a greater focus on both our standard and speciality products,” says Pierre Bengtsson, MAFI´s CEO. ”We are also increasing resources in both business areas.”

The market’s shortest lead times from idea to advanced prototype to shipping of ready-made brackets make MAFI unique.

Within a new business area, MAFI Integrated Solutions, MAFI creates custom-made brackets that fully meet customer needs.

Since a month, MAFI operates within two business areas:
MAFI Standard Solutions (MSS) and MAFI Integrated Solutions (MSS).
“We are now creating a greater focus on both our standard and speciality products,” says Pierre Bengtsson, MAFI´s CEO. ”We are also increasing resources in both business areas.”For almost 25 years, MAFI has essentially delivered standard solutions to the global telecom industry. In recent years, the company has made significant investments in technology and expertise, which enables it to supply the whole chain from ideas and prototypes to finished speciality products according to customer needs and wishes.
“MSS works with our catalogue of standard products used to mount antennas and other telecom equipment in regular rollouts and when sites are upgraded,” Pierre continues.

“Within MIS, we develop and manufacture other company´s products, all in-house. It may be a bracket for a special RRU, a radio, a camera or another device. It is, of course, essential that this bracket also has the same performance and quality as the equipment in which companies often invest large sums and a lot of time.”
But for most companies in the telecom industry, the bracket is something that needs be solved fast at the end of the project.”Here we can help their R&D department. This small detail for them in a massive project is the most important thing in the world for us! This is what we focus on, with many years of experience as well as comprehensive knowledge and competence.”

Lately, MAFI has formed a development method that optimises the brackets to make them stronger and with a reduced amount of steel in a cost-efficient production process.
“We provide solutions that meet all the demands of the customer,” Pierre continues. ”Already when developing the product, we solve strength problems. We know how to make the product most efficiently, and we can leave an attractive offer at an early stage.”

MAFI has completed several projects for large telecom companies according to the MIS concept.
“An appreciated factor is our very short lead times,” said Pierre. They are possible, among other things, thanks to our CNC machine with which our engineers can manufacture advanced prototypes.
Since there is a rapid and growing demand within this business area, MAFI will focus on developing MIS; soon a project manager will be employed.
“Of course, we have also guarantee that the high level of fast and secure logistics that our customers are used to is ensured in the future,” concludes Pierre.

MAFI News – Oct 2017

Opportunity for growth in Kenya

”Kenya is a diverse and vibrant society. With a population of well over 43 million people and a rapidly growing ICT industry with a mobile penetration of around 85%, there exists an excellent opportunity for growth in the mobile telecommunications sector especially in the areas of rural broadband and LTE in the urban areas.”
Says Francis Otieno, Program Manager, Network Implementation at Telkom Kenya.Today, there exists well over 8500 sites in Kenya, with massive expansions in 3G and 4G technologies across the country, comprising new builds, collocations and modernization of existing sites to accommodate new technologies and products to an ever growing and demanding consumer base.

”We have also recently seen the entry of a new Towerco in this space with whom we, alongside other operators, collocate on a number of sites,” Francis continues.
”This means the need for site solutions and especially antenna fixings has grown exponentially. We are also in need of innovative partners and solutions that make collocations and expansions on existing sites easier, faster and simplifies the approval process.”

Francis continues:
”We see MAFi as a valuable partner for site solutions with demonstrated expertise and a well-developed portfolio suitable for our market. I have personally known MAFi products since 2015, having been introduced to the sub-Saharan market by our Elektroskandia partners.”

According to Francis MAFi products are known fortheir quality and practicality which makes them a favourite for engineers and installers.
”One of the biggest challenges we face here in Kenya and Africa, in general, is logistics and quality control. We therefore particularly like the way MAFi manages the packaging of their products meaning we always get the right material transported to site at the least possible costs.”

”The Engineering manuals are very well done, simple to understand. This makes it very easy for the field teams to work with the products. We very much look forward to working closely with MAFi to grow our market share in Kenya.”

Anna strengthens MAFI´s design team

”I´m looking forward to working with solid design when we develop new solutions for the telecom market,” says Anna Borgny, a new employee at the company´s construction department.

Anna is an engineer, specialised in electrotechnology, from the Swedish University of Chalmers Lindholmen. When she had finished her training, she was headhunted by Ericsson in Sweden. She held several positions, as machine operator in a clean room environment, production technician for automated testing, and for the last seven years, developing and programming the test environment.
When Ericsson recently had to let people go, Anna volunteered.
”My partner Olle and I wanted to move to Dalarna, partly because he has most of his family here, but also because we like it here so much,” she explains.
So they moved to a 18th-century house just outside of Orsa, about a 20-minute drive from MAFI´s head office in Mora.
”I heard MAFI was hiring and I applied. And, a bit to my astonishment, they chose me!”

Anna will be a part of MAFI´s construction and design department, together with Jonas Wassdahl and Andreas Axelsson.
”It will be fantastic to learn new things and to go in-depth when it comes to CAD-construction and solid design,” she says. I am currently studying at university level to fill some missing gaps in my education.”
So, how else will Anna contribute to MAFI and its customers? She doesn´t need much time to answer the question:
”I´m extremely devoted and focused. I like to work and get things done. And I will be part of a team that finds honour in producing quality products for our customers. I also see myself as a happy person, so I hope I´ll spread some positive energy.”
When Anna isn´t working she likes to renovate the house, but also to just relax, watching a film or maybe go hunting.

MAFI rebranded

Responsive, reliable and exploratory.

These are the core values of MAFI, as they were defined in time for the company´s 25-year celebration, earlier this year.

”We´re are growing rapidly, and it was time to think through what we stand for,” says CEO Pierre Bengtsson. ”We needed to be able to easily communicate a consistent message both to our customers and partners, as to our employees.”The chosen core values were the result of many interviews with MAFI´s customers, partners, employees and board.
”We asked questions like: How do you experience MAFI? What does MAFI signify? What does MAFI do that you appreciate?” Pierre continues. ”And from all the answers we eventually distilled responsive, reliable and exploratory.”

As this work progressed and through SWOT-analyses, the management also felt it was time for a rebranding. And a brand promise that concisely describes MAFI´s intention and purpose.
”We phrased ”Your direction – Our goal”, which we feel is the essence of our company”, Pierre says.

Customer´s ”direction” involve anything from difficult technical solutions and bringing down lead times, to finding solutions that decrease working capital.
As to rebranding, it resulted in a new, modern logo and a remade homepage.
”The reactions from our customers has been very positive”, Pierre notes. ”They appreciate seeing that MAFI, after 25 years, still is moving forward, exploring new opportunities and that we strive to give our clients less to worry about.”

The 2018 catalogue
is here

– Never before have we had such an exciting
and appealing range of equipment for both city
as greenfield sites as we have now, says
Samuel Enqvist, Sales and Market Manager.
The new catalogue is 128 pages thick, and several new solutions are presented in it, as our success seller, the Multi ERS bracket (6023).
– Despite having more pages than ever, it is easily navigated due to a perspicuous index, Samuel ensures.

The products in the new catalogue are divided into four categories:
• Supports and brackets
• Freestanding solutions
• Wall mount solutions
• Accessories
As usual, most items are described over several pages with lots of useful facts and details.
The 2018 edition of the catalogue is available both as a PDF and in a printed version.
– Despite our digitalized age many of our customers still prefer a printed copy of MAFI´s catalogue. And we are of course happy to provide one, Samuel concludes.

MAFI celebrated its 25 years anniversary

In the first weekend of September, MAFI celebrated it´s 25 years anniversary.
115 guests contributed to making the event a huge success. The festivities started already on Friday when a group of guests, who had arrived early, was invited to a tour around lake Siljan. One favorite stop was at the factory where the famous Dala horse is made, still mainly by hand.

In the evening there was a dinner in Mora.

On Saturday all guests, from the UK, Finland, Kenya, China, India, and Sweden, were invited to MAFI´s old premises for lunch. From there they all were transported by buses to the brand new warehouse, twice as large as the previous one, just a bit north of Mora. Here they were divided into smaller groups and shown every aspect of how MAFI works. Then it was time for a biathlon competition! Yes, you read correctly! This included skiing (on a plastic course and grass!) and target shooting with laser guns. For most visitors skiing was a novelty, but everyone participated with great enthusiasm.

Saturday evening it was time for a gala supper. A wonderful three-course dinner was served, speeches were held, and a talented four man band (including a female singer) played a broad variety of music.

On Sunday morning, after breakfast, it was time to part. But MAFI will certainly invite its friends, partners, and customers to another event shortly!

Emma – new at the warehouse

Emma is 29 years old, born in Malung in northern Dalarna, and a trained butcher. But after a few years in that line of work, she wanted to something else.

“I like to learn new things, and it’s remarkably much to get into when you´re new at MAFI:s warehouse,” she says with a laugh.
– But all my new colleagues are very helpful, so I hope to be able to perform my duties as expected soon.
Emma sees herself as a cheerful person.

“What I think I can add to the MAFI is my positive attitude, and that I’m stubborn and I don´t back off from a challenge.
Emma has two cats, she´s into motor sports, and in her spare time she drives a motocross bike in the summer and a snow mobile in the winter. In mid-August, Emma Haltorp started working at MAFI’s warehouse. “I wanted to try something new, I like challenges and learning new things, and those who work at MAFI seem to be very nice.
That´s her answer to the question ”why MAFI”.

Tough challenge awaits Mora IK

”It will be fun to measure our forces with Sweden’s major clubs. Perhaps we may surprise sometimes.”Peter Hermodsson, MIK’s club director, is hoping for a successful ice-hockey season.

This spring, Mora IK joined Sweden’s highest ice hockey series, SHL. Now the newcomer can expect a tough season.”We have several goals, but officially we’re just saying we want to establish ourselves in SHL,” says Peter. ”The first year will be toughest, partly because we have not been able to build the same conditions as the established clubs, which includes our economy. Partly because in a short time we have had to strengthen both the club’s organization while still building and strengthening our team.”

Many reasons explain why MIK managed to make it to SHL, Peter says:
• The club laid out a clear strategy for the game idea three years ago and adhered to it. This means, among other things, a fast hockey and a lot of work on the ice.
• The club managed to get the right players in the right place. And players with an attitude that fits the game idea. Players get a lot of freedom under responsibility. Individual player development.
• The club’s talented staff.
• A coach desk that pulls in the same direction and creates a good atmosphere.
• Strong support from audiences, fans, and sponsors.

”I think we also have an incredibly strong hockey culture in Mora,” continues Peter. We work well together, with great pleasure. And the players play for the club, the community, and the village.
Peter believes that it means extremely much for Mora that MIK now plays in the highest division.”We put our city on the map every match day, two to three times a week,” he says. ”And besides generating more revenue, we also create pride for our society. At the same time, it represents an excellent exposure for our partners and the business community.”
Many teams who manage to enter SHL’s “hornet’s nest” usually fall out after the first season.

“We are aware of the challenge. But we will continue to play according to our success recipe. And we believe in our game idea, our commitment, and our culture.

“Everyone expects us to lose,” he adds with a laugh. But it only spurs us even more!

MAFI AB, a sponsor of MIK, wishes the club good luck!>
